MIND-BODY INTEGRATION

Hello from Mel aka Beach Budhi Body!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a blog post so I thought for this one, I’d take a look at the mind-body integration that has so much benefits in the movement practices you choose to do.

What I love about Nia is how the routines have some challenging and new ways of doing moves, and routines. Sure it can be easy-to -follow moves most of the time, however as we know, and as in life, it’s not always easy and you ask yourself how can I get comfortable with this, or perhaps break some patterns that aren’t working for me? or what is it that’s getting in my way to work it out? Is it my mind or body? How can the two work together? All these questions that can go on right!

This is why in Nia we also do moves that may be complex, different to the normal, to get the mind and body thinking and working differently. Also to change the repetitive way of moving that we are conditioned for and to try it in a new way. By doing this you’ll also find a shift in your mind and body and how you can allow space for the two to work together and also feel like YES, I have accomplished something different and I feel GREAT and JOYFUL about it. A sense of achieving something that is challenging also has rewards and learning to do it will patience, kindness and commitment for you is so UPLIFTING.

I love a challenging routine because of the fact that what was once hard has now has become easier and if you can shift your way of thinking (shift your story) by allowing the body to experience something complex but in a joyful and conditioning way – WOW what a great achievement! And YES YOU CAN DO IT! You might find yourself saying ‘ Wow, it wasn’t that hard after applying myself…’. We are all at different stages in life and different fitness levels, and that is absolutely a BEAUTIFUL thing to celebrate together, so why not gift yourself to take the responsibility for your mind/body and in community. Staying safe and comfortable is needed. So too is feeling more confident in yourself and stepping out of boundaries in a supportive and joyful way. Always with the intention of mindful movement that suits your body.

So what are the benefits for mind and body integration?

It reduces stress, and enhances mental clarity.

Helps you to become aware of your body’s sensations, and the thoughts around this and how you can choose to navigate through it.

Allow your mind to listen to your body and your body to listen to your mind and notice the differences and how both can be a positive or negative effect – depending on where you are at, in the moment.

Assists you to relax in your body at challenging times.

Strengthens your intelligence and awareness to all that is, inside and around you.

Improves muscle relaxation and release of tension in the mind and body.

Brings connection to you and those around you.

So, as much as I would like to say Nia as an easy practice – it also can be challenging and in a great way – Overtime and through repetition it becomes easier – like anything you do right! So you may notice in my classes I like to give you a challenge but also know it’s only an invitation and you have the freedom to choose what is joyful for you. I love that no matter what, we can come together and have some fun while learning some tools to navigate and dance through life.

Have a beautiful day and see you at one of my classes!
